Welcome Back!

Hi All,

It’s been an age in preparation over the summer but we’re finally back with a bang.

The summer has seen some changes, some staff have moved on to pastures new and we send thanks for their great service.

This year has seen a huge number of applications to join our great selection of courses

Level 1  22

Level 2  39

Level 3  166

… and still rising. Level 3 year 1 has now 6 groups for the first time ever!

College life can be incredibly difficult at times but always remember why you cam here, to take that next step on the path towards your chosen career. We’re all here to help and so if you have ANY issues please tell us.

We hope you all have a great time with us and enjoy your studies.

Regards,

James Thomson

Last 4 Weeks!

comfort zone 55 Inspiring Quotations That Will Change The Way You ThinkHi all, hopefully you're all enjoying the week off to recharge your batteries and will be raring to go in the four weeks ahead until the summer break.
Now could be a time for winding down but instead this should be the busiest time of the year both for staff and students. This time is crucial for your whole future. Why?

If you are leaving us soon, the grade you take away is your own snapshot of you as a person. This shows what level you can push yourself to. If you leave us with distinctions then you have shown you are capable of the highest grade possible. If all we see are passes then it may give the impression you are happy with the bare minimum.

Any future employer will take this into consideration.

If you are staying on for a further year at grade 3 then every unit counts towards your final grade. It is easier now to go into the second year with a foundation of high grades than taking the 'i'll do it later' attitude. If you can't be bothered to try now then you are unlikely to ever be bothered, trust me.

If you are coming up from level 2 then don't forget, we are looking for more than just a pass to get you up to the next level.

Enjoy your holidays and come back next week raring to go!

It's Been a While But...

We've been busy in Computing. Here are some of the things we have been doing:

Digital Heartspace

In response to calls for easier access to information, we launched the digital heartspace from the Computing VLE. This gives information about everything from the team to the courses, trips and timetables, and also a place to give us feedback.

Work Experience

We have added the opportunity of a work experience week for all students on w/b 22nd April. As from next year this will be week 18.

Students are required to find their own placements (with assistance) and send a letter with covering CV.

Work experience is a vital part of your education and gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills to a (prospective) employer. From my own personal experience as a manager who has employed work experience students, this is a great opportunity for you all to impress!

We feel up here in computing that you should have as much 'hands on' experience as possible, which brings me to our next point.

PC Clinic

We are launching our in-house repair business, the Computing PC Clinic this week. This will provide a much-needed service and also vital hands-on work experience. Specific details will be announced later.

Drinks Machine

We finally had a drinks machine installed on the 7th floor after a long struggle. I specifically picked one that delivers both hot, cold and soup so please use it or lose it.

TV Screen

The TV screen near to the staffroom is in place to be a central point of information. It is currently running a clock with date and time, 3 news feeds (News, Sport and Technology) and a video we use for open evenings. If you would like to see something specific up there then please contact us.

Clubs

We launched a 3D Modelling club a few weeks ago on Tuesday lunchtime and will be also getting a games social club going in the next few weeks. There has been call for a games development club which will probably follow shortly. We will also be launching our very own magazine.
